Our mission is to create a niche in this industry, offering the best that each of these two drastically different business models provide while eliminating the inherent shortfalls associated with both.

Doggie Latchkey shares the same passion of the individual pet sitter because that is how we started. Denise Westlund founded Doggie Latchkey out of necessity. There was no in-home pet sitting company offering services in 2009 when Denise was planning her first vacation that would take her away from her beloved Standard Poodle Carlton. She would not take him to a kennel, a personal decision she felt strongly about. There must be a better solution, she thought. And at this moment the idea of Doggie Latchkey was born.

The earliest clients could see the enthusiasm Denise had for this industry and the dedication she showed for their pets. This was not a job, as Denise had recently retired after 30 years at her former employer. She did it for the love of the animals and the satisfaction derived from providing pet owners with a better solution. Word of mouth spread so quickly that it only took a few months before Denise could not keep up and enlisted the help of her eldest son in the administrative tasks so she could focus on what she loved, the animals.
More than 12 years later, Doggie Latchkey has performed over 250,000 pet sitting assignments and assembled a team of professional pet sitters that share her love, passion, and dedication to this work. Her son left his career to work for Doggie Latchkey full-time and it remains a truly family-owned and operated company. Denise no longer works with animals directly, instead she now focuses on customer service, and making sure each customer receives the perfect service for them and their pets.
