Get a Rescue Alert Sticker – These stickers alert rescue personnel that you have pets in the home. You should place these in an area rescue workers can easily see them and fill the stickers out with the number and breed of pets in your home, as well as the name and phone number of your veterinarian. If you are forced to evacuate with your pets, write EVACUATED across the stickers. You can order these for free here

Arrange a Safe Haven – If conditions are not safe for you, they are not safe for your pets. If you are forced to evacuate, it is important to note that not all Red Cross facilities allow pets. Many local animal shelters will provide an alternate emergency shelter in the case of forced evacuations.

Emergency Supplies – It is always a good idea to keep an emergency pet kit on hand. Experts recommend 3-7 days of pet food and 7 days worth of water. Doggie Latchkey also recommends having a blanket in your pet emergency kit to wrap up scared or anxious dogs. It is also a good idea to keep a photocopy of medical records and vaccination certificates.
